Optical spatial tracking using coherent detection in the pupil plane.
Design considerations for a heterodyne spatial tracking system utilizing pupil plane processing techniques and its advantages over traditional focal plane processing are described. Noise performance bounds, optimal and suboptimal local oscillator distributions, pull-in performance, and applications other than spatial tracking are discussed. Experimental verification of a one-axis closed-loop tr...
متن کاملPupil-segmentation-based adaptive optical microscopy with full-pupil illumination.
Optical aberrations deteriorate the performance of microscopes. Adaptive optics can be used to improve imaging performance via wavefront shaping. Here, we demonstrate a pupil-segmentation based adaptive optical approach with full-pupil illumination. When implemented in a two-photon fluorescence microscope, it recovers diffraction-limited performance and improves imaging signal and resolution.

Aims. We search for the best possible transmission for an external occulter coronagraph that is dedicated to the direct observation of terrestrial exoplanets. We show that better observation conditions are obtained when the flux in the focal plane is minimized in the zone in which the exoplanet is observed, instead of the total flux received by the telescope. Methods. We describe the transmissi...
متن کاملAxial Plane Optical Microscopy
We present axial plane optical microscopy (APOM) that can, in contrast to conventional microscopy, directly image a sample's cross-section parallel to the optical axis of an objective lens without scanning. APOM combined with conventional microscopy simultaneously provides two orthogonal images of a 3D sample. More importantly, APOM uses only a single lens near the sample to achieve selective-p...
متن کاملMulti-plane super-resolution microscopy
Understanding cell functions is the major goal of molecular biology, which intends to elucidate the interactions between biomolecules at a subcellular level. One of the widely used techniques in molecular biology is fluorescence microscopy, which offers high specificity and sensitivity at the submicrometer spatial scale but is limited by diffraction to about 200nm lateral resolution, which is i...
